It all began with a group of girls in the little town of Salem Village. Nearly every day they would gather to hear a West Indian slave named Tituba tell stories of magic, superstition, and witchcraft. These stories were exciting but strictly forbidden by the church, and the girls were terrified of being discovered. It wasn't long before the townspeople noticed how nervous the girls were acting and wanted to know why. Afraid to tell the truth, the girls claimed they were being tormented by magic and accused some of the most respected people in the village of being witches.
